In support of Thai dissidents

Some the Asian-European summit in Milan went well, according to others a bit less. For the Thai Prayath, it was a success. It does not happen every day that a dictator who took power through a military coup instantly walks in to the international community through the front door. The perfect occasion... almost. The Nonviolent Radical Party lend a hand to the "almost". In fact, we went to express our support to a small group of Thai dissidents, most of them political refugees in Europe, who demonstrated wearing gags and with signs around their neck under the windows of the hotel in Milan where Prayath was staying.

Some of those who invited us have written to us: the demonstration "has had wide media coverage in the Thai media (as well as being mentioned by all major Italian media), and has had a really significant political impact in Thailand, giving strength to the opposition movement, which, although representing the majority, is currently silenced by martial law; many Thai citizens were overcome with emotions in seeing the interest and participation" of Radical members.

For the Nonviolent Radical Party, dealing with human rights in Asia is nothing new. Contacts with the Thai opposition may serve to involve them in our project for the realization of a democratic federation on that continent. Exactly democracy and federalism were the two great absentees at the Milan summit: not only because of the Asian States, but especially due to the European States.
